August 2018 Product Purchase Reviews

Over the course of the month of August, I’ve purchased a bunch of new makeup and skincare products that I’m super excited to share with you! I talked about most of these in Tuesday’s YouTube video too, so be sure to check it out. Without further ado, my new products!

Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub

This is the first exfoliating scrub I’ve used in a good long while, and I absolutely love it! I use it every other day, once a day. It has made my skin so smooth, and feels so luxurious to use as well. And a little bit goes a long way too. It’s not harsh at all, so the regular use won’t cause wear and tear on skin. My only complaint is that it has a slightly strange smell. It’s a little bit chemical smelling in a way. But having dry skin, it’s definitely hard to find a good exfoliator that doesn’t strip the skin and this one definitely fits the bill!

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea

Mario Badescu is mostly famous for toner type sprays, and this is no different. With dry skin, I have to be careful with toners. But this spray is not only a great toner step, but also is great for when I need to freshen my makeup before going out in the evening or just later in the day. It smells very fresh, the strongest smell being the green tea. Overall it hasn’t made a huge difference in my skin, but it hasn’t caused it any issues either.

L’Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Glowing Water Cream for Normal/Dry Skin

While it’s amazing, the Tarte Drink of H2O moisturizer is extremely expensive. So when my trial finally started to run out, I bought this product to try instead. So far it actually feels fairly similar. There’s a lot in the container, so it should last for a while. It sinks into my skin and has actually made some difference in overall moisture! The packaging is nice as well, seems very sturdy and luxurious, unlike many drugstore products can be. It’s a lot waterier than I expected, but it feels amazing on the skin.

Wet N Wild Photofocus Color Correction Palette

The best thing I can say about this is “it’s okay.” The color correcting shades are fairly decent, but not great overall. They don’t blend into the skin very well is my biggest issue. The pigmentation is fairly good, but it doesn’t really help with it being hard to blend. The yellow shade blends well under my eyes, but not so well on my lids, and the green doesn’t blend well on the redness across my cheeks and any zits I have. I don’t use the purple at all because I don’t really need it. The saving grace from this palette is the highlight shade. It’s a slightly different formula, and I use it as a base for my powder highlight to make it pop. For the cost of the product, it’s not bad at all, but I don’t think I’d buy it again.

Maybelline FaceStudio Master Conceal Concealer

This concealer is one of the best drugstore concealers that I’ve tried recently! It’s easy to blend in, has pretty awesome coverage, and doesn’t crease. I can even bake my undereye area without everything drying out super badly! It’s incredible. I love it! A little goes a long way with this concealer, so the small seeming tube will last a really long time.

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink in Dreamer

Maybelline is killing it these days, I didn’t realize how awesome their stuff has gotten. This lipstick made me slightly nervous because one of their other matte lipsticks was one that I ended up being allergic to. But the formula on this is super comfortable for a matte, and doesn’t dry out my lips very badly. It takes a bit of time to dry down, but once it does it’s transfer proof and wears down very slowly. This one takes a long time to disappear, and this shade at least wears down very naturally on my lips. But it doesn’t leave a bunch of color on my cups or utensils. It even holds up after a full meal!

Up&Up Makeup Sponge

I’m not really a fan. This is the Target brand of a makeup sponge. It’s one of the hourglass shaped ones, and I don’t care for the shape as much as I do the RealTechniques sponge. It also doesn’t get completely clean, leading me to think it’s absorbing a TON of product. It buffs everything in fairly well, but I don’t expect it to last long. It was cheap though, so I didn’t expect a whole lot.

Maybelline FitMe! Dewy and Smooth Foundation

I’ve tried the matte and poreless version of this and it really didn’t work for my skin tone. But I forgot how awesome of a foundation this is overall, because the dewy and smooth is incredible! It’s got good, buildable coverage, but feels like I’m wearing nothing! I prefer a matte finish, but my current powder helps me achieve that without drying out my skin. And the shade matches my skin perfectly, better than any other I’ve tried so far!

Storybook Cosmetics Harry Potter Wand Makeup Brush Set

These brushes are INCREDIBLE. One of them came a little off shaped, but I’m not bothered because I got them from Groupon (at a significant discount). The metal of the wands is heavy, but not to the point of weighing the brushes down. They feel sturdy enough for daily use, and washing them like I wash my other makeup brushes has seemed to work fine. They’re very soft, and apply product very well! I’m actually majorly impressed by them.

Morphe 35P Plum Eyeshadow Palette

This palette. You guys. It’s beautiful, full of interesting matte, shimmer, and glittery shades of purple with a small corner of neutrals. They all blend out pretty easily, have great pigment, and look absolutely amazing. There is so little palette-wise with a selection of nice matte purples of assorted shades. This palette has basically every kind of purple eyeshadow you could ever want!
