If you’ve ever considered concealing dark circles, you’ve heard about the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. It’s the holy grail for hundreds – even thousands – of makeup artists. In the past few years, every drugstore brand you can buy has tried to dupe the Shape Tape concealer. From Makeup Revolution to L’Oreal, everyone wants in on this kind of concealer.
The Tarte concealer is high coverage with a large doefoot applicator – the first of its kind for a concealer. It has been on the market for quite a few years now and is many people’s staple product. But one that I’d contend is even better than the Tarte Shape Tape is the elf Cosmetics Hydrating Camo Concealer.
The packaging on both of these is fairly similar- clear plastic tubes with oversized doefoot applicators. They have about the same amount of product in them as well.
Both are full coverage concealers that can cover just about anything. Howtrffffff trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrever, Shape Tape is a bit more drying. Some think the coverage is higher, but I don’t agree. The elf concealer has just as much coverage but it has a hydrating element that really makes a difference as far as how it performs under my eyes.
Tarte’s Shape Tape has a much wider shade range than the elf Hydrating Camo Concealer, but I think they’re still dropping new shades of the elf one ocassionally. They do need to make more shades though!
Shape Tape is $29 per tube and the Hydrating Camo Concealer is $6 per tube.
In general, I definitely prefer the elf concealer! Shape Tape is really thick, and it just cakes up under my eyes. The elf concealer actually nourishes my skin and still covers anything I need it to.
