As you grow older, your body and your skin will go through a lot of changes. Certain things such as excess sun exposure and sleeping in makeup can prematurely age skin, but time stops for no woman! The frustrating thing is that your skin will change significantly. Your tried-and-true products may fail you.
There are several factors that are important to take into account when you’re attempting to choose makeup for more mature skin. Hopefully these tips and suggestions will help you find the perfect makeup for you!
Use Hydrating or Glowy Primers
Mature skin tends to be more dry and rough. To help counter that, use hydrating and glowy primers under your foundation. They’ll help bring that youthful glow back into the skin! I recommend the L’Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Primer if you want super intense glow. And the Makeup Revolution Star Primer is super hydrating.
Look for Lighter Coverage Foundations
Lighter coverage foundations are going to be less cakey on dryer skin, and will avoid getting in any wrinkles or smile lines. If you find a water based one, it can help with hydration as well. Two good foundations are the Physician’s Formula The Healthy Foundation and Bare Minerals BarePRO Liquid Foundation.
Avoid Powder Products Of Any Kind
Powder products can make things cakey. I would powder your skin with a translucent powder at the end, but not heavily. A hydrating one would be a good idea such as the Becca Hydra Mist Powder.
Use cream blush and highlight. Glossier Cloud Paint is a gorgeous, subtle, cream blush, and Wet N Wild has a great highlighting stick. If you prefer powder products, try the Physician’s Formula Butter products! Bronzer, Blush, and Highlight. They smell great too!
Invest in an Eye Cream
A moisturizing eye cream will help keep your eyes bright! And if you have trouble with under eye bags, try a targeted product such as the Dr. Brandt No More Baggage Eye Cream. If you don’t have bags, just an under eye brightener (cream product of course!) will work wonders.
Look for Natural Glow Highlighters
If you’re not using cream highlight (it can definitely be intimidating), it’s a good idea to find some natural looking highlighters. Super glittery ones will show every bit of dryness and texture, so you want a natural glow such as the Essence Pure Nude Glow Highlight.
If you’ve found some products that are particularly awesome on mature skin, let us know in the comments! I have family members who would be super happy to see new products to try.
